Less Blood, More Brain Cells: Art in October’s Madness

After teleporting through more haunted houses than I care to admit and narrowly escaping my third pumpkin spice latte overdose, I decided to give my virtual soul a break. Instead of more corpses and mutant clowns, I opted for a cultured adventure and went to visit two art exhibitions.

I’ll be honest, I’m not usually the “walk through a gallery in Second Life” type. I prefer seeing photos in glorious full screen on Flickr or Primfeed, where I can zoom in and pretend to understand depth of field. But ‘Entropy’ made me pause (and not just because my avatar got stuck IN the staircase).

Scylla’s photos are haunting, poetic, and absolutely drenched in meaning, even if, like me, you’re not entirely sure what that meaning is. Each image is accompanied by a quote or a poem. Did I fully understand them? Nope. Did I try to Google “Second Law of Thermodynamics” halfway through? Maybe. Did I love the photos anyway? Absolutely.

Scylla herself describes Entropy as:

“Death scratched out in scientific notation… Time’s remorseless and uncaring arrow… the Memento Mori that blooms… Entropy is a broken teacup.”

And you know what? I felt that. Especially the broken teacup part, that’s basically my kitchen.

If you’re looking for something beautifully unsettling, this exhibit delivers. It’s a little dark, a little philosophical, and very, very Second Life.

Entropy is open till November

🎃 Happy Halloween by Cica Ghost

And then, because apparently I can’t go a week without pumpkins, I visited Cica Ghost’s Happy Halloween.

But don’t roll your eyes yet! This isn’t your average “skeletons and splatter” kind of Halloween. Cica’s world is a surreal black-and-white wonderland, where the only splashes of colour come from a few pumpkins, a cat and some sad vegetation. It’s spooky, yes, but in an endearing sort of way, less gore, more giggle.

The whole place feels like walking into a sketchbook brought to life. The quirky builds, the playful details, the slightly offbeat charm, it’s the kind of Halloween that doesn’t take itself too seriously. And thank goodness for that.

After so much blood and horror across the grid lately, this was a welcome reminder that Halloween can be weird without being bloody. Oh, and turn on the music stream, it adds to the atmosphere!

So, whether you’re craving deep existential photography or a trip through monochrome madness, these two exhibitions are the perfect antidote to the October chaos.

Bring your curiosity, a bit of patience for loading textures, and maybe a cup of tea (preferably not broken).
