Escaping the Pumpkins: A Visit to Village de Roqueblanche

Don’t get me wrong, the haunted regions, a flying pumpkin or two, and the occasional ghost popping out of a wall are fun and, of course, the big thing in Second Life this month. But even the most devoted Halloween enthusiast sometimes needs a breather from all the shrieking and shadowy corridors.

So, in search of sunshine and sanity, I wandered into Village de Roqueblanche, a gorgeous slice of the French countryside that feels like teleporting straight into a lazy summer afternoon.

Designed by Albane Claray, this region is everything you’d expect from a dreamy holiday destination: warm light, cobbled lanes, a sun-drenched square with a market and terrace, and the comforting background soundtrack of chirping crickets. You can almost smell the baguettes and sunscreen.

It’s super French, in the best possible way. The kind of place where your avatar will suddenly develop opinions about rosé and start using words like bonjour and fromage with reckless enthusiasm.

There are rental homes tucked between the trees, so you can stay a while if you like. Fair warning: five minutes in and you’ll probably be imagining a new life here, wearing a floppy hat and claiming to have “left city life behind.”

The land description sets the mood perfectly (and poetically, in French, naturellement):

“Un village où sont endormis mes souvenirs d’enfance, des pierres usées par la pluie, brûlées de soleil…”
Roughly translated to: A village where my childhood memories sleep, the stones are worn by rain, the sun shines.

And yes, that’s exactly what it feels like. Nostalgic, peaceful, and deliciously sun-soaked.

So if you need a little sunlight between your spooky adventures, Village de Roqueblanche is the perfect teleport.
You can always go back to the haunted mansions later, preferably after a glass (or bottle) of wine. 🍷
