Les Miserables

We do not claim that the portrait we present here is a true one, only that it comes close

Once upon a time, when I was young and innocent *cough*, I wanted to become a teacher and studied French (and English). I always loved reading books, still do, and for my study I had to read a lot of French literature.

One of my favourites was Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, the last years mostly popular due to the musical. I think I have read the book about 10 times (in French and Dutch), not only for study but because I liked the story so much.

On one of my travels in Second Life I found a place dedicated to literature, Empyreal Dreams. In small skyboxes they have made art installations featuring famous books, and one of them is….Les Miserables.

I admit, it’s not very impressive but I do like the atmosphere of the small streets that are created in shades of black and white and completed with a depressing rain.
There is not much to do, except walking around a bit..but with the book in mind I did get a bit of the feeling back I had all those years ago, when reading it.

The one thing I did not understand is the stairway, which makes you end up in the sky between planets and stars. A bit out-of-place and sci-fi, but okay..it’s an art installation, so let’s say it’s the artistic freedom :).
