Toxic

Not something you may think about, when exploring Second Life: a reconstruction of the Union Carbide Chemical plant in Bhopal India, 1984 – shortly after the gas leak that caused so many deaths…I am old enough to remember this tragedy and all the awful images on television-news back then, but to be honest; in Europe it was not every day news the last years, but I found out on the UCC website, this  disaster and all the lawsuits are still not really 100 % dealt with.

Memorial Hall with information and photo's

Anyway, in Second life is this memorial sim and I went there to have a look.

Yeah, well…what can one say about something like this..Maybe, if you are interested, go there and walk around. It is kind of spooky, but I suppose that is knowing that this really happened there, thousands of people lost their lives and many thousands more were affected by the aftermath.

The hall in which photo’s (real ones, not for the weak hearted) are displayed also has some (protest) books you can read. They are very anti-Dow Carbide (Union Carbide does not exist anymore) and make it clear the wounds are still fresh and deep and probably will not heal for a long time. As I do not know the files, nor the complete story, I would say: go see and look around, at least it’s something quite different to visit!

Don’t just lurk, comment!
