Five Years Since STÖMOL?! Wait… What?!

So apparently, on 23 July, that’s this Wednesday, it’s been five years since the premiere of STÖMOL. The dystopian, stylish, and seriously ambitious machinima by Huckleberry Hax, who somehow managed to write, direct, shoot, edit, and star in the whole thing without combusting into flames.

And yes, yours truly played a lead role. Me. A lead role. In a movie. That people watched. That got reviews. That had a RED CARPET PREMIERE in Second Life, for crying out loud.

If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d end up acting in a cyberpunk thriller machinima wearing futuristic armour and guns, I’d have asked what you were drinking and where I could get some. But then STÖMOL happened,  and it was one of the most exciting, creative, and yes, sometimes absolutely chaotic projects I’ve ever been part of in Second Life.

Lights, camera, pose!

Filming STÖMOL was a wild ride. Let’s just say standing still on a platform while trying to look tough and not accidentally detaching your own hair is a skill. And Huck? The man is a machine. Patient, precise, and somehow always almost knew what he wanted, even when the grid decided it did not want us to film that day.

I remember the long takes, recording the voice lines, the late-night shoots, and sometimes frustration between takes when something inevitably went wrong or a location we used was suddenly gone. Acting in Second Life is not for the faint-hearted.

And now, five years later, STÖMOL is sort of back! In Huck’s blog, which  you should absolutely read, he is not just reflecting on the journey but celebrating with a brand-new soundtrack release and anniversary event on Wednesday, 23 July. Because of course, he is. He doesn’t sleep.

And you are invited to celebrate with us!

So, where’s the party?

Why, at the very same theatre where we held the red carpet premiere all those years ago, of course! Because clearly, we love full-circle moments. Huck will be DJing, yes, you read that right. Mr. Stömol himself behind the decks, spinning a custom mix that (trust me) slaps. And no, I can’t believe I just said “slaps” either.

🗓   When: Wednesday, July 23rd
🕒 Time: 3 PM SLT – 5 PM SLT
📍 Where: STÖMOL Stage at the Nancy Redgrave Building

A New Release!

To top it off, Huck is also launching the official soundtrack album for STÖMOL and WAARHEID: TRUTH IS NOT A THING. He somehow convinced the brilliant GJ Hicks (composer and wizard of vibes) to release the epic music from both films, and yes, some of the tracks are baked right into Huck’s party setlist.

So come dance, reminisce, and pretend we haven’t aged a day. It’s going to be a brilliant evening of nostalgia, music, and slightly laggy dancing.

See you on Wednesday?
And for the full scoop (and a preview track!), head over to Huck’s blog here.

PS: If you haven’t seen STÖMOL yet — what have you even been doing with your Second Life? Go watch it. Grab the popcorn. And if you already saw it… Go rewatch it and join our anniversary vibe!

Boo, will probably only stay for a little while as that’s super-late for me. 🙁 But will be around for the pre-party, and yes I’m pretty sure Huck is a cyborg of some kind, hehe.
