Once upon a time, in a virtual world not so far away, there existed a magical scroll of wonders. A guide. A compass. A cool webpage pointing new residents (and curious oldies like me) to all the fantastic places and events in Second Life. I’m talking, of course, about the Destination Guide.
Cue dramatic music. Or sad violin. Or a moody windlight preset.
You see, dear readers, a while back I found myself on the Second Life homepage, hoping to take a peek at the What’s Next page looking for a place to explore, and… gasp. No Destination Guide. Nada. Zilch. It has vanished like my inventory folders after a viewer update.
Now, I don’t want to be that person who yells at the virtual cloud, but honestly… where did it go? The Destination Guide was like a lovingly curated map to all the magic; from underwater mermaid realms to steampunk airships, from goth vampire hangouts to cheerful café sims filled with cake. It was more than a list. It was a welcome mat. An invitation.
New residents (or returning ones rezzing in after a decade and asking “what’s a mesh body?!”) could actually find cool stuff to do. For seasoned explorers like me, it was the perfect digital wanderlust fix. It was also a great way to accidentally spend two hours dancing with robots when I originally logged in just to check messages.
But fear not, fellow adventurers! While the Destination Guide may have taken a detour off the main page, it’s not completely lost. It’s just hiding in somewhat plain sight, you can still find it here. Bookmark it. Hug it. Whisper sweet nothings to it. It’s still full of teleport-worthy treasures.
And, Linden Lab, if you’re listening: pretty please with BPR cherries on top, bring the Destination Guide back to the forefront. Give it a home again on the What’s Next page. New residents (and old ones in need of a reboot) will thank you. Heck, I’ll thank you. Publicly. With sparkles.
Until then, I’ll be clinging lovingly to that link like it’s the last landmark in a crashed viewer.

I took the pictures for this blog on Cherishville Summer, which you can find in the Destination Guide! Or use this landmark
