Hot Cocoa, Cold Feet, and Questionable Wildlife Management

While my real-life self was melting into a puddle thanks to an untimely, but luckily short, heatwave, my Second Life self did what any sane avatar would do: I fled to the snow. Yes, full-on winter. Snowflakes, knitted hats, boots, the works. Who says you can’t have a seasonal identity crisis in Second Life?

So here’s where I went to cool off (or pretend I did), bundled up in my stylish, comfy winter clothes!

❄️ Adagio’s Winterland: the peaceful blizzard

Adagio’s Winterland is like stepping into a snow globe, if the snow globe had horses, ice skating, and way more photogenic pine trees than is strictly necessary. It’s big. Like, really big. Quiet too, with snow falling like it’s being paid per flake. Ideal for wandering aimlessly while reflecting on why I live somewhere that turns into a furnace for a week, unannounced.
I didn’t try the horse ride (my AO and horses are notoriously incompatible), but I did wander, twirl, and pose dramatically by a frozen pond.

Five stars for snow, silence, and sheer scale. Also, the romance potential is off the charts. Bring a date, or a thermos of glühwein and a healthy imagination.

⛷️ Winterhaven: ski resort vibes without the skiing

Winterhaven is nice. There’s a ski lodge, a cute village, and a ski lift ride that goes all the way up Silver Mountain. Of course, I also took the lift down, because skiing is just falling but more expensive. Unfortunately, the neighbours apparently didn’t get the snow memo, there’s a suspicious amount of green if you look too far into the distance. So I didn’t.

I roleplayed my way through the whole thing like it was peak January and I wasn’t sweating in real life. The region is charming,  assuming you don’t turn your camera too far left.

🏔️ The Mountain: where snow meets chaos

This place is huge. Like, four regions huge. You can arrive by boat, balloon, or sheer dramatic flair. Snow is falling like it’s auditioning for a disaster movie, and the views are spectacular.

There are slalom courses and snowboarding runs for the sporty types (not me), and balloon rides and rentable cabins for the rest of us (yes please!). I had a romantic idea of sitting in a snowdrift, looking mysterious. Instead, I got shoved around by overly enthusiastic wild deer. Graceful, majestic creatures, until one of them launched me into a snowbank like it was personal.

Still, The Mountain gets points for ambition, atmosphere, and excellent selfie spots!

If you’re melting in real life like I was, or just want to wear that stylish parka you bought in February and never unpacked, all three spots are well worth the visit. Just…watch out for the wildlife.

Question for you lot: What’s your favourite way to fake a season in Second Life? Do you go full winter wonderland in July, or are you still sipping coconuts on a virtual beach?

💙 Stay frosty!
