Being a blogger who takes photography very, very serious (hah!), I thought it would be nice to share the terrible conditions and situations I have to endure on a daily basis, in order to make happy and pretty pictures.

It is not easy being an SL Blogger/Photographer! The continuous struggle to find the right windlight, that perfect shadow, the right amount of sunlight and so on. It is not at all just matter of sitting on my ass and click away. No, no, NO! It takes time, effort, lots of coffee (and cigarettes) and on some days even alcohol is involved to produce something worthwhile to publish.  Yes, dear reader…the trouble I go through for a post is sometimes too much. But, on some days I realise I have to man up..well, woman up, and try to stay zen. (occasionally logging off out of sheer frustration helps too).

Today was one of them days. It seemed the whole grid including all its wonderful residents was out there to get me and frustrate me. Photobombing and flying shoes, all part of the torture I went through for some simple pictures of a new gown, a dance and a pretty sunset….To illustrate what my day was like, I took pictures, of course – it is what I do! – to share with you.

I got this stunning gown from Junbug ‘Bel Fiore’ – it comes with a colour hud for many options – and wanted to make a photo showing it off, whilst wearing my new skin (Glam Affair Neva Frost – @ Frost) and this is the picture I had in mind:

Junbug's Bel Fiore and Glam Affair Neva Frost

I took this picture on A Postcard Christmas, as I always prefer photo’s on location, and when I arrived it was all empty – not a soul on the sim. By the time I had my pose, windlights and settings as I wanted, this happened:

By all means, why don't you indeed stand there for 7 mins?!

By all means, why don’t you indeed stand there for 7 mins being all silent!?!

Classic Photobombing eh, it happens a lot. To me.
Besides photobombing there was the mystery of the floating shoe tonight…..Don took me out for a dance, so I could show off this gown and all, and I have no idea why, but he was wearing an extra shoe. In my back. How romantic?! Even after relogging, the shoe stayed where it was. Oh well. I took a photo from an different angle, keeping Don’s extra footwear out of my view.

No 3rd shoe in sight here!

No 3rd shoe in sight here!

Well, how charming is this ?!

Well, how charming is this ?!

In need of something pretty and less stressful, I went to Yuki No Yume for a sunset picture, I always find that relaxing. Well untill today…

Sure, no problem...land in my sunset with your big hair!

Sure, no problem…land in my sunset with your big hair!

In all honesty, the photobomber on the last picture apologised when he realised he landed on me :). I also know how to derender avatars, but I rarely do that, instead I just wait till they walk away. So I can moan and complain to myself and make another coffee!

PS: A while back I created a group on Flickr ‘Being silly in Second Life’, for all those awkward moments and other silly moments in SL, feel free to add your most embarrassing moments too, let’s just laugh …and have a coffee!

A while back I asked Caity what she usually does when I log off, just out of curiosity. She told me she goes to bed and sleep most of the times, but sometimes she likes to go the Welcome Area’s to see if she can help new residents with starting their Second Life. She blushed and admitted this is how I sometimes miss stuff from my inventory: the sweetheart has given away many of my clothes! I forgave her, of course, how could I not!

So, this morning I read Berry’s new meme – courtesy of Winter Jefferson this time – in which we are asked to tell and show what our avatars do when we are not online! Well, I know…because Caity told me, but I did not have any pictures of it. I had to go to town for some hours, hence I logged off, and therefore I asked my Man-Alt to ‘follow’ Caity, but not disturb her while she is doing good deeds! – and make some nice pictures for me to show off !

Well. I have to say. I am shocked! I will definitely have a word with Ms. Tobias and have her explain how exactly this falls in the ‘helping new residents’ category. I will show the pics of this morning, thanks to Mr. Lastchance – who is also a bit disappointed. No. I am not proud.

The Private Life of Caity - I The Private Life of Caity - II

Fairly new in the Destination Guide is Serenity Gardens, an enchanted forest and more: caves, a river and shores! It is also home of the mainstore of Savoir Faire Poses and Shapes, but that is in the sky and the groundlevel is for all to explore and enjoy.

I really love the ‘bubbles’ in the trees you see first thing when you arrive! It is magic :). Due to this being in the Destination Guide it was very busy when I visited it, and crowded with new residents (piling up at landing point), who were collectively lost in this new to them virtual world (I have never had so many requests for private voicecalls from strangers in my whole SL as during my one hour visit to Serenity Gardens! Ack!).
So, you may want to check the map first to see how many people there are before you hop over, because it is worth a visit!

Those of you who follow my profile feed have no doubt seen my adventures with n00bs. I love the n00b! They provide hours of fun and entertainment and they are one of the reasons I never get bored when inworld.
The past days I received a few (no, not hundreds – I am not that popular!) questions on how I made them ‘do’ all those things….So here is the big secret of ‘how to have fun with a n00b, without hurting anyone’ !

First of all, you need the n00b! It is not an avatar, but an object. Yes, I am aware I am now disappointing lots of people, but: no real new residents are harmed in my adventures! I bought my noobs for free on MP a few years back, from Art Laxness. Alas, I have tried to find them on MP but no such luck, I am afraid he has taken them off the MP.
However, they are free and with full permissions and in the notecard that I got in the pack Art specifically mentions that he hopes people will share them. So, if you want one (you can rez and copy as many as you need), just let me know and I will be happy to drop one in your inventory!

When you have your n00b, you have to think of a ‘scene’. That is for me always the easy part, in fact…I never give it much thought, the ideas just pop in my head as I go along, often (well mostly) very random!
With the scene in mind, you may also need a pose and some props, depending on what you are going to do. In this blogpost I will show and tell what I used for todays shopping-trip:

* A fabulous outfit for myself, in this case a dress by Fellini Coutures, incl. hat and shoes from GOS.
* Poses + shoppingbags from Glitterati, still available on MP: the Shopaholic-set!
* Two n00bs
* A place where you can rez for a while, I always go to a sandbox as I am not a good builder/editor and it is safer if I do not do this at home (it would not be the first time I would link a n00b to some trees or accidentally delete parts of the house….ahem).
* Think of a nice location where you want to take the picture when you are ready for it (it is not important to have building rights there, that will become clear in the rest of this post :)).

As said, I am not a builder, so my explanation will be a bit brief as my skills are limited but hey..this means if I can do it, you can do it too!

I always start with finding the right pose for myself, and while in pose I rez two noobs. Via edit mode, edit linked parts, I coloured their t-shirts green for this occasion and after that I lined them up as I had in mind. Then I rez the shoppingbags and move them in position to their hands. These particular shoppingbags have a colour menu, so of course I matched them!

When the n00bs are in the correct position including the shopping-bags, I link all this together, making it thus one big object!

So, the hardest part is done! Now, I wanted to make a picture of me shopping with my guys in a fancy shopping-street, in this case I went to Mayfair – the gorgeous home sim of Mon Tissue and Celoe, but of course I have no building rights over there. In order to still take my n00bs with me, I wear them as an attachment. Simply right click them, select: put on, attach, other, and in my case I always choose: avatar center.
Voila..I am now wearing my guys. They will, when you do this the first time, appear on a weird spot or allover you. No worries: just right click them again and move them in the wanted position (while you are in your pose!).

Now I am all ready to go on a shopping trip to Mayfair.

An important note though: I do not want to disturb other people, nor do I wish to land on innocent shoppers with my whole entourage……so I always check the worldmap first to see if the coast is clear, so to speak. It is, in my opinion, also NOT a good idea to do this at large events or  clubs and such!

Anyways, this is the endresult, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

A new week, and a new meme from Strawberry! A fun one, again, and answering these questions – your first SL…etc,  ended up in a trip down memory-lane for me….I am in SL since March 2007, so a lot of ‘first things’  are buried deep down, but I think I got them all!

My first look (well, close to it anyway!)

My first look (well, close to it anyway!)

First SL Friend: Moonie! When I finally managed to leave Orientation Island (I was there for weeks, thinking that is was SL) I ended up in a Casino and met Moonie, who…surprise surprise was a RL friend for years and I had NO clue she was in SL. She helped me getting started, and we have had fun for 2 years untill she left SL. I still see her in RL :).

First SL Kiss: Besides one or two accidental ones when I was a n00b in 2007 and ended up on some furniture in a shop with another n00b, my first real SL Kiss was last year, with Sy :)

First SLex time/place/partner: Well, that would not be lady-like to tell would it? (Hint: see answer to previous question)

First SL Partner/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Wife/Husband: Sy Beck, we got partnered last November but are together for over a year now. We didn’t do the wedding-stuff.

First SL Job: Hostess in a Poker Palace, a few weeks after I started SL, thanks to Moonie.

First SL Creation: Ah…That was on Orientation Island, I ‘created’ a t-shirt. Well, you know…I dropped a random texture from the library in the shirt I was wearing and tought I looked awesome – specially when I also managed to edit the system hair!

My first creation!

My first creation!

First Encounter with a Linden:  I forgot her name, but the first Linden I met was a lady, dressed up as Snow White and she was very friendly, she helped us SL Mentors in  Waterhead Welcome Area with getting rid of some griefers.

First Encounter with a SLebrity: I do not believe there are SLebrities.

First SL Sim you fell in love with: Oh I have seen so many and love so many places, but I think I was in total awe with the Gardens of Apollo (if I got the name right), the place is gone since last year, but I found it sooooo amazing!

First SL Blog Post: A matter of looking in my archive and tataaaa: here it is, 13 August 2010!

First kiss :)

Just for fun I fiddled around with Windows Moviemaker and created this short slideshow of ‘A Sy & Caity Adventure’. Also because we had too much fun making these pics and this is a nice way to save them, rather than uploading a 20 image story on Flickr or this blog!

Oh my….what is it with newbs and their struggle with shoes and feet? I spent only one hour in Waterhead Welcome Area on my Sunday afternoon and all I saw was people with sore feet, shoes from a decade ago – but not quite vintage – and missing footshapes…

After looking at these painful feet I really needed something pretty to recover! So I hopped over to the new mainstore of JustB and got myself a lovely Faux Suede Jacket, in coal! Aaah….I feel better already!
