Queen’s Gambit Declined

The Queen’s Gambit Declined (or QGD) is a chess opening in which Black declines a pawn offered by White in the Queen’s Gambit:

1. d4 d5
2. c4 e6

This is known as the Orthodox Line of the Queen’s Gambit Declined. When the “Queen’s Gambit Declined” is mentioned, it is usually assumed to be referring to the Orthodox Line.

Before you think that I know how to play chess…nope. I do not. At.all.  I got this information from wikipedia, hey hoo and thank the internet for googling!
The reason I had to Google this was because Queen’s Gambit Declined is the title of Rebeca Bashly’s current art installation at MetaLES.

After reading the Wiki, well…only a few lines since I zoned out quite fast being a total n00b when it comes to chess, I wasn’t really enlightened about the meaning of Rebeca’s artwork but that is not important at all to me. What is important is that it is an intruguing artwork, simple, colourful and somewhat disturbing. Beautifully made and if you like mazes or labyrinths you will love it!

And who knows, maybe it makes perfect sense if you are a chess-player! In any case: go see it!
